Psychopy builder not starting

If this template helps then use it. If not then just delete and start from scratch.

OS : Win 7
PsychoPy version : 2020.1.3
Standard Standalone? (y/n) : yes
**What are you trying to achieve?: start my experiment

What did you try to make it work?:
Uninstalled and installed pschopy and python 3.8
What specifically went wrong when you tried that?:
I recived the experiment from my colleague, originally it was collecting data online, but now I use it for offline data collection on a lab stand alone win 7 computer.
It was working fine for like 4-5 months, but suddenly I wasn’t able to start psychopy at all. The computer doesn’t have internet connection, so the automated update is not possible.

When I double click the psychopy icon it starts, but it looks like it starts over and over again, and opens a lot of windows for psychopy and aster a while it just stoppes and say that the python just stopped working. I tied to uninstalled all of the Psychopy versions: 2020.1.3, 23.2.0, 24.2.4 on this computer, but I recieved the same error while tried to uninstalling the latest 24.2.4. It said that the python stopped working. I installed a 3.8.4 python to the computer and after that I started to install the old versions again. Everything looked like ok, but when I tried to start the psychopy builder again, the issue stayed the same, (lot of windows, blanking, empty psychopy windows, and finally an appcrash)
What could cause the this type of issue? I am not able to open psychopy3. I attached a picture about the details of the crash.

Hello @Mary_Takacs

Perhaps you have a corrupt appData.cfg-file? This file is not deleted when reinstalling PsychoPy.

Best wishes Jens

For a computer running windows 7, I found running psychopy 2023.2.3 to be the most stable.

As Jen suggested, make sure everything is removed, and then install psychopy. Then when opening psychopy make sure you open the version you just installed. I found that sometimes psychopy won’t remove the builder/coder/runner/main program .exe functions (both when you install a new version AND uninstall the previous version) and if you accidentally try to open those, it makes it very unhappy. So just double check you are trying to open the psychopy version you just installed.
