Can't update or uninstall PsychoPy

I have PsychoPy v2023.1.3 installed on my PC at home, which is running Windows 11. I want to update to a later version (v2024.1.5), but I cannot.

  1. I can install a later version, but it does not remove the existing version and does not create a new shortcut. There does not appear to be a way to start PsychoPy when a shortcut has not been created.

  2. I cannot uninstall the existing version because it doesn’t show up in Control Panel > Programs and Features and there does not seem to be an uninstaller exe file in the directory where PsychoPy is installed (in the newer version there is a file called ‘uninst.exe’, but this is not present in the older version).

  3. I cannot update from within the existing version by running PsychoPy as administrator and selecting Tools > PsychoPy updates, because I get the error “Could not move existing PsychoPy installation (permissions error?)”.

I need to use a newer version than PsychoPy v2023.1.3 because this version crashes when I run a PsychoPy program containing a form component, even the BigFiveInventory demo (see: `ufunc did not contain a loop with signature matching types` error with NumPy 1.22 · Issue #7756 · numba/numba · GitHub).

I can’t think what else to try!

Well, a shortcut to PsychoPy v2024.1.5 has belatedly appeared in the ‘Recommended’ section of the Start menu as ‘Recently added’. I guess the real problem is that I don’t know my way around Windows 11.
