We are a group of university researchers looking to set up a Pavlovia account using our shared lab Gmail address. Our goal is to ensure continuous access to our experiments for multiple team members, even after individual researchers eventually leave the university.
We have already completed the registration form, but we would appreciate guidance on the next steps for registering a shared lab email. Could you please let us know where to direct this request? Can we provide the our gmail to you personally, and further steps needed?
I’m afraid, although I understand some previous labs have done this, having a shared account with a distributed password isn’t something we support for security reasons. Each user should have their own account and then you can create a pavlovia group giving “maintainer” access to the appropriate experiments.
This way
you can track back who you gave access to and remove access to individual members of your team in the future
you won’t have an insecure password being shared around
we/you can track which individual performed each action on the site/project rather than seeing it was just “someone from the lab”
Ok i understood, but can you allow access to the main lab email ID, which is a Gmail account? In that way, the main lab can maintain all the experiments hosted there. Please let me know the procedures so that i can provide further information
The issue is that when he changes the institution they delete the email ID, so he wants to maintain an account permanently, would you please let me tell steps to allow Gmail access.
Hi Team , Sorry to be a bit pushy, but could you please let me know on the update?, Please let me know the necessary procedures so that we can proceed with hosting our studies as soon as possible.
Hi, the lab manager does have an account based with ac. ae (UAE). Yes but once he leaves, that account will be deleted by university. So that is why we request for access by our lab’s Gmail ID. I can share the Gmail account and the lab PI’s account in case you want confirmation or any other information from our end.
I’m afraid that posting something on Friday afternoon and expecting a reply before Monday morning does come across as a bit pushy. Also – this is a user forum. You are not emailing the team.
The lab manager could change the email address on their account to someone else’s email before they leave or, if necessary, it would be possible for OST to change the email on a lost account, though this would require sufficient proof that it was appropriate to do so.
Have you looked at groups yet? The most accurate way to approach this would be for the current lab manager to create a lab group, for the lab group to contain the labs projects, and for the lab manager to change the owner of the group to someone else when they leave. This would dissociate personal repositories from shared repositories and if there are issues which crop up with this approach (such as any difficulties with the transfer of ownership of a group or group members having access to projects in their group) then these are bugs we would want to put effort into fixing.
I will bring up this thread at our planning meeting this afternoon.
Sure, sorry, I thought you people are the team. I would like to know in this case you mentioned. Changing the owner retains all the projects right, even if the original creator’s account got deleted?
A group can have multiple owners, all of whom should have equal access to projects within the group. Removing or deleting one of the accounts shouldn’t affect a group which has more than one member, and certainly not if it has more than one owner.
gmail addresses are no longer accepted so, no, you can’t add new ones (although existing gmail addresses have not necessarily been removed unless they were identified as spammers)
Ok I would like to know that I saw a Form which ask you to add your domain in case if it’s not in the list ,even that is not allowed now?. Do let me know. I have filled the form although haven’t heard from them.
The form to request an additional domain is primarily for users from academic institutions which, for whatever reason, aren’t already on our white list. If you already have a Pavlovia account with a gmail address then you could use it to create a group to share with other users. However, at this time we are not adding new users with generic email addresses.
