Description of the problem:
Check the capitalisation of the files in your online image folder.
So should the files names start with a capital letter or a small letter? because I have both.
It doesn’t matter. They just have to match in your spreadsheet.
They are matching with the spreadsheets offline. However, when I synced the experiment the ‘jpg’ turned to ‘JPG’ online in the images folder but probably not in the spreadsheet. Is this what I should change?
Hello Najat
The file names in the spreadsheet must match the file names online. The OS is case-sensitive.

Hello Jens,
I tried to capitalize ‘JPG’, type them in small letters, and remove them completely from the spreadsheet and all attempts failed. I still get the same error message.
Please note that the ‘images file’ offline has the images saved as ’ Slide10’, ‘Slide 11’ …etc. without ‘JPG’ and in the spreadsheet’s file ‘jpg’ was added in small letters and when synced the website ADDED ‘JPG’ with capital letters to the images, so they would be named as ‘Slide10.JPG’ instead of ‘Slide10’. So, I added them to the files offline then uploaded them to Pavlovia and added them to the spreedsheet. and still did not work.
I checked my previous experiments that work online. I found the images saved as ‘Slide1.jpg’ in Pavlovia with a small letter (although the file’s name saved offline is ‘Slide1’ without jpg). May you please inform me how can I change the title online?
Best wishes,
Najat.
Hello Najat
I doubt that the images were saved without a file extension. I suspect that you are using the default option in Windows which is hide extensions for known file types See How do I show file extensions in Windows 11? for advice on how to change this.
This could mean that you are running the experiment from the browser’s cache. Clear the cache (Ctrl-Shift-Del) or run the experiment in a private window.

Hello Jens,
Thank you very much for the information,
yes, this is true, the files’ extensions were hidden, I managed to type the extensions in small letters and upload the files again to Pavlovia. Now I am no longer encountering the images error.
Also, I changed all the capital letters to small letters for all files on and offline. Now I get another error message:
Please note that the difference here is in the ‘instructions’ folder it is in small letters but in this error box it starts with a capital letter.
Best wishes,
Najat.
That means that you should change it to lower case in your component and/or spreadsheet.
It is in lower case in every location I know. But may you please clarify the term component I am not familiar with it.
Hello
You might want to familiarise yourself with the terms of PsychoPy by looking at
- Peirce, J. W., Hirst, R. J. & MacAskill, M. R. (2022). Building Experiments in PsychoPy. 2nd Edn London: Sage.
or
- Peirce, J. W., Gray, J. R., Simpson, S., MacAskill, M. R., Höchenberger, R., Sogo, H., Kastman, E., Lindeløv, J. (2019). PsychoPy2: experiments in behavior made easy. Behavior Research Methods. 10.3758/s13428-018-01193-y
All things on the right side of the Builder interface are components
Obviously there is a mismatch in capitalisation between the PsychoPy program and the folder structure. They need to match. If they match, clearing your browser’s cache may help.

Hello Jens,
Thank you for the information,
I managed to solve it after I checked the experiment offline, I noticed that the instructions spreadsheet attached had two conditions, later I added a condition to the same file and did not know I had to reattach it because it is the same file in the same location. I already wrote it in small case it did not work only after attaching the modified file offline. now experiment A is working. Did not expect that but I am happy it is working now.
Experiment B was facing the same error, now it is fixed, but I am facing another error with experiment B:
Please advise,
Best wishes,
Najat.
Hello
This is the same type of error you have encountered before. Pavlovia cannot load the file prac_spr_ins.jpg from the folder Instructions. So the same logic applies, make sure that the name of the folder and the name of the file are identical.
Best wishes Jens
Hello,
Thank you for the feedback,
I tried to delete the photo and then upload it again (because it and the folder were written with small letters) … it did not work initially, but after I left it for few days it just worked perfectly.
So, now the experiment is working well on and offline.
Best wishes,
Najat.
Hello
Well, this is probably because the browser’s cache has been cleared in the meantime.
Best wishes Jens
Hello Jens,
Thank you for the information,
I just fixed a problem by clearing the browser’s cache.
I had this experiment that worked perfectly on and offline as a pilot. I switched the experiment from ‘pilot’ to ‘run’ and it showed me the ‘Not Found’ error. I checked and saw that there weren’t any credits assigned to the experiment. I assigned credits yet it still showed the ‘Not Found’ error. So, I cleared the browser’s cache then it worked.
Best wishes,
Najat.
