Tobii software is necessary for eyectracking?

I am considering buying a Tobii X2-30 or a Tobii X3-120 and wonder whether the Software Tobii Pro Lab is necessary to run an experiment using Psychopy. I am thinking that maybe this software, which is expensive, is necessary for the calibration.

By the way, does anyone have experience using these two eyectrackers in psychopy under OS X?

As far as I’m aware no - the Tobii SDK, which python packages working with tobii screens rely on, is free.

I’ve only used the screen-integrated eye trackers (eg TX300), but they work great. I would imagine the ones you’re looking at work similarly well.
