Experiment crashing or audio files not saved in data folder

Hello Psychopy community!

I’m having a problem with one of my experiments that is currently running on a lab computer where PsychoPy version 2022.2.4 is installed.

We’re having a few problems with the experiment: either the experiment crashes in the middle for no apparent reason, or the audio files are not saved out in the “data” file. Do you have any idea how I can solve the problem so that the task works correctly on version 2022.2.4?

For your information, I had used PsychoPy’s consultancy to create the task and I had never encountered any real problems and as far as I remember the initial task had been created on a version of 2020 but when I try to run it on a version of 2020 (doesn’t matter which one), the task launches but shuts down immediately. Thanks for your help.

If the experiment is crashing, please look for an error message.

In 2022.2.4, audio files from microphone components aren’t saved until the end so they are lost if the experiment crashes or escape is pressed. This is fixed in 2024.1

Dear @wakecarter,

Thank you for your help. Somehow we managed to run the task without crashing. But we now face another problem : audiofiles are saved in the data folder when the experiment runs until the end but they are empty. Do you have an idea of how to fix this? Our task only runs on 2022.2.4.
Thank you again.

Try a simple one-routine experiment to see if you can get the microphone to save files. Try different audio devices. It might be you are recording from a microphone that isn’t really present (or is captured by another program).
