Different mobile phone issues on two versions of the same task

Some context: we have two versions of the same task that are slightly different than each other, because we had to keep making a new experiment when editing the old experiment, but it also helped in that we could make big changes and test them out on one experiment while participants could safely play our game on the other experiment.

I’m asking about both because we need both–we may need to switch our current participants over to one, but both have glitches now, and I’m unsure why they’re happening. both were also mainly coded by two other people who are more knowledgeable about coding than I am (and who are no longer part of our team, which is why I’m turning to this forum), so I will do my best to answer any follow-up questions posed.

I did look/search on the forum, but only found one about mobile phones from 2020, and it didn’t seem like the issue in that post applied to the issues I’m currently experiencing. Though, I could be wrong.

Also please let me know if I should make these two separate posts/topics.

Description of the problem of experiment 1:
It’s a timing task/game that, for some reason, is only crashing on the Toast (Long/Dark) demo and only on mobile phones. I’ve tested it multiple times on desktops (Mac and PC) and tablets (iPads only), and it works fine. It’s only one phones (both iOS and Android) that it crashes during that particular demo. And by crash, I mean it completely exits out of the game, but does not exit out of the tab. I’ve tried the task on an emulator through Chrome, but the glitch doesn’t happen there.

This problem popped up, as far as I know, about a month ago. But it’s hard to get an exact timeline because most of our participants have been using their tablets or desktops to play it. My supervisor trying it out on her phone last month is the one who pointed it out to me. Though, recently, one of our participants contacted me to tell me it crashed during the Toast Long demo for her too, on her mobile phone (iOS).

Description of the problem of experiment 2:
In this version, the questions and scales at the beginning are what seem to be glitching out. Where the faces are and where the scale is have been replaced by black bars, obscuring both completely. Trying to touch them yields nothing, and because of that the Next button doesn’t appear, so the user can’t escape unless they exit completely out of the task/tab.

Once again, this only happens on mobile phones (only tested on Android, though). I’ve tested the task on desktop (PC) and tablet (iPad) and they work fine. I did also try it on an emulator using Chrome and that worked fine, too.

I also did try downloading the newest version of Psychpy to see if updating the task would help, and it didn’t. It’s still giving me those black bars across the faces and the scale, but only on mobile phones. (I did not try this on the timing-game one because participants are currently using that and I don’t want to break it more than it already is broken.)

Let me know if you need more information or have clarifying questions. I will answer them to the best of my ability. Thank you!
