We’re running an online experiment using a link by Pavlovia. The experiment consists of a reading task and a questionnaire generated by Pavlovia Survey.
For the reading task, participants read the words presented on the screen (in total 45 words) which is recorded. They move on to the next word by pressing the spacebar.
The problem is that the experiment sometimes gets stuck when participants press the spacebar and the experiment doesn’t proceed anymore. I’ve tried to debug this and found that sometimes it gets stuck when people press the spacebar too soon and modified the experiment instructions accordingly. But based on some feedbacks lately it seems that it could also be stuck when people press at a normal tempo. So far it doesn’t seem to be an internet problem.
Is there anything that I can do (e.g., in the routine setting) to improve this? Please let us know if more information is needed. Thank you!
What do you want to happen if the participant hasn’t pressed a key when the keyboard component ends (at 4 seconds)? If they press before 0.5 seconds I assume you want them to have to press again.
Thanks! Yes, I would want them to be able to press again just to move on to the next page when they pressed before 0.5 or after 4 seconds. How should I modify the component?
(When people press too soon, the recording slot also gets messy and sometimes stretches across two trials. I thought a starting time with 0.5s would reduce this, but probably I’m wrong.)
Thank you very much! I’ve changed the setting and so far it looks good (also makes more sense to modify it in the Routine setting than in the key response
