Hi, I’m currently working on an experiment involving Gabor patches and have encountered an unusual issue specific to my computer. A weird shadow appears around each Gabor patch, but only when the background color is solid black or a dark shade. This problem does not occur with lighter background colors, nor does it appear when the same code is run on a different computer.
The issue seems to be related to how dark backgrounds are rendered, suggesting it might be a compatibility issue with my current setup or a problem with display settings. The shadows around the Gabor patches do not appear on other systems, which leads me to believe it could be specific to my hardware or software configuration.
Things I’ve tried:
- I’ve tried installing multiple versions of Psychopy including 2022.1.4, 2023.1.0, 2023.2.0
- Experimented with different background colors, noting the problem occurs with dark shades
- I’ve tried updating graphics drive
I’m curious if anyone has faced a similar issue or if there are known compatibility problems with certain display types, operating systems, or versions of Psychopy when using dark background colors. Any advice on troubleshooting or resolving this issue would be highly appreciated.
I was primarily using builder and here’s the code in the python file generated:
gaborRight = visual.GratingStim(
win=win, name='gaborRight',units='pix',
tex='sin', mask='gauss', anchor='center',
ori=1.0, pos=[0,0], size=(111,111), sf=0.05, phase=0.0,
color=[1.0000, 1.0000, 1.0000], colorSpace='rgb',
opacity=None, contrast=1.0, blendmode='avg',
texRes=128.0, interpolate=True, depth=-3.0)
OS : Windows 7
PsychoPy version : 2023.2.3
