Does RT begin counting from the onset of a response component?

Lets say I show people a picture and have them make a keyboard response.

The keyboard component begins 1.5 seconds into the routine.

Does an RT of 3 mean:

  • 3 seconds after the onset of the routine?
  • 3 seconds after the onset of the keyboard component (4.5 seconds after the onset of the routine)?

Keyboard component reaction times should be from when the component starts. You should be able to quickly verify this by checking whether you get rt values of less than 1.5 in your data.
