Audio File Precision in PsychoPy

Hi everyone!

How accurate time-wise is PsychoPy with handling the loading of audio files? The lab that I’m working for uses E-Prime and desperately wants to switch to something open-source, but hasn’t because E-Prime is very good with recording exactly when an audio file starts, and when a test subject responds to the audio file.

We would like to get within ~10-15 ms precision with the onset-time of the audio file; is this feasible at all in PsychoPy? I know that frame refresh rates may be an issue, along with the time it takes to press a button on the keyboard. My current hardware specs are:

  • 8 GB RAM
  • 64 bit Windows 10 Home OS
  • ASUS K501UX
  • Intel Core i7

Thanks for your time!

On an unrelated note, is there a way to sync up audio file time data with eye-tracking data from an EyeTribe or Gazepoint?
