Re: wx, did you try installing from the wheels on wxpython.org ? For Mint 19.1, I think it would end up being pip install -f https://extras.wxpython.org/wxPython4/extras/linux/gtk3/ubuntu-18.04/ wxPython (instructions here: https://wxpython.org/pages/downloads/index.html )

After some time, a new issue showed up when installing PsychoPy3 "Requirement.parse(“cryptography>=…), set([‘PyOpenSSL’])” This was solved by pip3 install pyopenssl
