Psychopy Task crashes when plugged into projector through thunderbolt -- suspect audio problem

OS: Mac High Sierra
PsychoPy version: 1.85.6
Standard Standalone? y
**What are you trying to achieve?:
I have a task that shows visual stimuli and makes a beep sound every time the visual stimuli is shown. The task works perfectly fine when running on the mac laptop, and not plugged into anything. However, when I plug the mac into a projector through the thunderbolt connection, psychopy either crashes right away (much of the time), or starts the task and then throws an error to the effect of ‘Fatal python error pygame parachute segentation fault.’

What did you try to make it work?:
To try to troubleshoot, I eliminated ‘pygame’ from the audio library option in preferences. That decreased the number of times it automatically crashes–in that it will occasionally start running the task–but it is not reliable. I also tried changing the audio device to the options available, but it seems it will only work when ‘auto’ is chosen.
