This is a late reply and maybe you already updated, but:
This is AFAIU a bug in PsychoPy v2022.1.2 (and possibly some version before that) and seems to have been fixed in a later version, though it’s not listed in the release notes for v2022.1.3. See also: Changing orientation of polygon
I had the same issue as you describe in an experiment, and simply updating to v2022.1.4 solved the issue.
