which seemed to be provoked by using the wrong version of PsychoPy. I verified that I unpacked the 2023.2.0 demos.

I also tried with 2023.1.3: I unpacked the demos for that version, and ran the gratings demo. I get the same error:

Hi everyone,

The noise component (as well as the envelope grating component) is currently a plugin.

To install it, please click the “+Get more…” icon at the top of the components list, and then search for “psychopy-visionscience”. Install that and restart the app, and you should see the components back in your list and also be able to run the noise demo.

As for the gratings demo, we’ll look into that in a little more detail as I’ve just noticed that this still doesn’t work in spite of the components required being present (at least for me). I’ll come back and update this thread as soon as possible.

As Kim says, the first issue is that this functionality has moved into a plugin, but we haven’t got the transition smooth enough yet for finding things that have moved.

I think what’s happened with the Gratings psyexp demo is that, PsychoPy found the Component it didn’t know and replaced it with UnknownComponent, but then saved the file.

We’ll be updating in the next bugfix release (probably in a week or so) to handle this better - if you load an experiment that requires a plugin to run it will let you know that (and won’t corrupt itself while trying ).

In the meantime, if you now have the psychopy-visionscience plugin installed and you’ve restarted then this file should get you going again:

@jon @Kimberley_Dundas Thank you very much, both. This is really good to know, since errors in the tutorials tend to make one doubt one’s own sanity - “It can’t be a problem with the library!” I will install the psychopy-visionscience plugin and try with 2022.2.5.
