I’m just wondering what are the optimal specifics are for video resolution in Psychopy. I’ve seen it recommended that H.264 encoded MP4 with AAC audio encoding works best and a display size of 720X 480 works best.
Would a 480p (854X480) video work?

Try it and see. There is no specific pixel size that is somehow optimal (although generally, smaller is better), it all depends on factors specific to your local system (e.g. speed of disk access, your graphics card, and so on). But people have certainly had success playing movies larger than 854 × 480, so on a reasonable system, you should be OK.
