What are you trying to achieve?: Tones (950 Hz or 1100 Hz) generated and played back without crackle (duration of sound set to 100ms).
What did you try to make it work?: Turned on Hamming window (using resample checked and latency turned to: exclusive aggressive low-latency (with fallback)
Link to the most relevant existing thread you have found: Psychopy generated pure tones have a click despite Hamming window - #5 by hmd
What specifically went wrong when you tried that?:
Some (but not all) of the high and low tones still produce a crackling noise. I’d really prefer to keep this generated by PsychoPy rather than creating .wav files, as that has been problematic moving across machines. Is it because the duration of the tone is relatively short? Is there something else I’m missing? I’ve looked through a lot of the discussion threads, and while many people reported similar issues, it looked as though it had been solved with the Hanning option turned on. The 2024 post linked above seemed to suggest that there was a problem with the windowing, but I assumed that would’ve been fixed by 2026. Might anyone advise?
Happy new year to everyone in the community!
Warmly,
Justin
