I canť close windows on PschoPy, please help!

I’m having a serious issue with PsychoPy on my Mac. I recently downloaded PsychoPy version 2026.2.4, and whenever I run even a very simple piece of code, the experiment window opens but then becomes completely unresponsive.

I cannot close the experiment window using the Escape key, the keyboard, or the red close button in the top-left corner. The only way I can get out of it is by force-quitting PsychoPy.

This is making it very difficult to work because every time I run my code, I end up with a window that I cannot close normally. I then have to force-quit the application before I can continue, and repeatedly opening and force-quitting windows is putting a lot of unnecessary strain on my computer and making it extremely difficult to work on my project.

I have already tried downloading different versions of PsychoPy, restarting my Mac, checking whether my macOS version is too old or reinstalling PsychoPy. None of these have solved the problem.

I’m wondering whether this could be a compatibility issue between PsychoPy and my macOS/Mac hardware, or whether there is a setting or configuration I need to change.

I would really appreciate any advice on how to fix this, as I currently cannot properly run and test my code.

Do you have any code in “Each frame” with print statements or other logging?

Try reducing the logging level in Experiment Settings / Data - error is the minimum.

Hello @Maya_Vondrackova

  1. Do you see the message “Attempting to measure frame rate”?
  2. What is your macOS/Mac hardware?
  3. What do you try in your very simple piece of code?
  4. What happens when you use the Builder instead of the Coder? I assume that you are using the Coder given that you have posted this in coding.

Best wishes Jens

Some ideas for diagnosing.

Can you run in windowed mode so you can see messages?

Do you have a visible mouse cursor, and can you move it?

Are you running 2 screens?

Might this be related to the ptb keyboard problem where the keyboard is unusable unless libjack is installed?
