Hi! I am currently designing some fMRI experiments using PsychoPy, and I am wondering what factors are essential to consider, particularly regarding timings. Since I am working with auditory stimuli, I need precision and would like to control for even the slightest delays, if possible. Thank you!
For precision with auditory stimuli, you will need an audio validator so you can identify the delay between the sound being requested and it actually starting and being audible. Do you have any suitable hardware?
I was not aware of this. Can you give me some resources about it?
Here’s a page about a Cedrus Stimtracker
This page suggests that a Riponda could work for speech input but is not good for tones.
Here’s a page from BlackNoxToolkit about sound card latency
Hopefully these will help.
Great! Thank you so much for your time!
Hello @marac
Firstly, I would record the auditory stimulus on one channel and a synchronised sound pulse on the other channel of a stereo recording, in order to determine the lag produced by your system. I would then compare the onset of the sound stimulus and the pulse using software such as Audacity.
Best wishes Jens
